Paul Schneider and Alex Lawton co-founded SLK Capital LLC (SLK) in 2013 in response to the lack of conventional financing available in the aftermath of the 2008-2009 financial crisis. SLK addresses the needs of viable business seeking growth capital through asset-based loans, contract financing, consulting, and related strategic transaction services.
Having experienced the financial world early in their careers at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, respectively, Paul and Alex also have more than a decade of business experience as owners of Schneider Inc. and The C.A. Lawton Co. – each a family business with a long history of success.
The pair have been friends since childhood and today maintain a relationship through their families and businesses.
At the core, they take pride in providing resources for entrepreneurs to be successful.
Co-founder and managing director of SLK Finance, Paul Schneider serves as a Principal for Schneider Holdings and family director for Schneider Inc., a $3.5 billion global leader in logistics. He assesses private equity investments for various holding companies and has held general manager roles in operations, marketing and engineering, including being on assignment for Schneider Logistics (Tianjin) Co.
Previous to his family business and private equity career, Paul was a corporate finance analyst for global investment banking leader Morgan Stanley & Co., where he focused on capital fundraising and mergers & acquisitions for industrial clients such as GeorgiaPacific and Lockheed Martin.
Paul has an executive MBA from The Kellogg School of Management, an MSIS from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, and a BA in economics from Northwestern University.
He serves on the boards of TrafficCast International and Dropp. He is a Trustee for the Boards of St. Norbert College and Northwestern University.
Norbert College, Notre Dame Academy and Northwestern University’s Transportation Center. Paul lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with his wife and four children. He enjoys outdoor activities including golf and skiing.
Co-founder and managing director of SLK Finance, Alex Lawton experienced the financial world early in his career at Merrill Lynch. He has over a decade of experience as a business owner and CEO of The C.A. Lawton Co., a leading manufacturer of large iron castings and machine components for commercial and industrial markets.
Alex earned an undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee and an MBA from Loyola University Chicago.
His true passions are people—from his family and friends to associates and clients—and solving problems.
He is an active member of TEC, an executive development group, and a member of the Green Bay Area Catholic Schools’ cabinet with assignments in marketing and enrollment for Notre Dame School of De Pere. He also chairs the investment committee and is vice president for the Catholic Foundation, with $60 million in assets managed. Alex lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with his wife and four children. He enjoys outdoor activities including fishing and golf.
John Klenke serves as a strategic advisor to SLK. He provides investment and treasury counsel and has represented SLK clients in mergers and acquisitions as well as re-capitalization transactions. John currently manages various investment portfolios and serves on the Board of a heavy equipment dealership and leasing company.
Mr. Klenke was elected in 2010 to represent Wisconsin’s 88 th Assembly District. While in office he served as Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee and was a member of the prestigious Joint Finance Committee. He chose not to run for reelection and left office in 2015.
He is the retired president of Schneider Finance, a 22-year- old leasing company with over $1 billion in transportation and related equipment transactions. In previous roles, John served as an executive responsible for corporate development, treasury, and various tax accounting functions. Previous to his career at Schneider, John was a tax accountant for Arthur Anderson.
John is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master’s in tax and a Bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and Madison respectively. He provides consulting services from his base on Lake Martin in Alabama where he and his wife enjoy outdoor activities including boating, golf and hiking.
Jay K. Tomcheck
Jay Tomcheck provides consulting services to small and medium sized manufacturers. The focus of his advisory services are on corporate financing, treasury management, sales and leaseback, interest hedging, diligence and mergers and acquisition. In addition he provides insight on modeling, structuring, and sourcing of funding for start-ups and turnarounds.
Jay’s career spans over 30 years in financial management. Most recently he was the Chief Financial Officer for WS Packaging Group headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin which is one of the largest printing and label converting operations in North America. His primary responsibilities included lead negotiator for all financial transactions, outside business relationships along with providing analysis, evaluation, and negotiations with companies considered potential merger or acquisition candidates. Jay was responsible for all financial functions within the corporation while overseeing the approval and processing of revenue, expenditures, and financial operating systems. He also provided oversight to the legal and information technology areas of the business.
Currently, Jay is an active member of a number of diverse manufacturing companies Board of Directors. Jay provides owners with large company experience, tools and perspective.
As a strong supporter of a number of charities Jay currently serves as Treasurer and sits on the Executive Committee of the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay. Jay graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and subsequently obtained a MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. He married, has two grown daughters, and resides in DePere, WI where he enjoys year round outdoor sports and recreation.
Joey has 30 years of experience in purchasing, inside sales, accounting, financial analysis and general management as well as ownership in industrial and food businesses. Her past experience includes working for MEGTEC Systems, Green Bay Structural Steel, Kineva Foods Co, Fairplay Packaging, and Power Train Services.
Joey also holds an Associate degree in Accounting, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and an MBA in Finance. Many seminars have added additional expertise including food safety certificates from NSFI in Internal Auditing and Advanced HAACP.
